What I think about
I started writing this post to help me clarify what I wanted my book to cover. Yes, that book, currently held up by my realisation that more was needed than just a treatise on assumptions about futures.
I started writing this post to help me clarify what I wanted my book to cover. Yes, that book, currently held up by my realisation that more was needed than just a treatise on assumptions about futures. So here it is - what I think about at the moment - not all at the same time though! It is an exercise in connecting the dots though.
I think about how we think about our collective possible futures. I think about our innate foresight capacities - how they emerge into consciousness to be applied in futures processes - both design and practice.
I'm thinking about why our foresight capacities are such a mystery in terms of being something that we can find, surface, recognise and use in our lives and work. I'm curious about how we can use our foresight to expand and deepen our understanding of our possible futures in the present and reframe our thinking so new actions emerge for us.
I'm thinking about how to link our worldviews and the assumptions and values they generate to how we think about, nurture (thank you Wendy Schulz) and explore our futures in the present.
I'm thinking about how to understand how worldviews emerge in our individual brains and become collectively powerful in our 'realities'.
I'm thinking about how to understand the relationship between biases and assumptions - I think they are related but different things.
I'm thinking about the relationship between worldviews and mindsets - and it's a tad confusing.
I am thinking about how I can contribute to the development of futures consciousness (this link too). This consciousness is shaped by our worldviews and underpinning assumptions. Big area, but it's important to make overt the need to explore how we think about futures and how to make our foresight capacities conscious parts of that thinking.
Finally, I am thinking about how to connect the thinking about futures with what I call the doing of futures - the processes, the approaches, the methods and other tools.
What are you thinking about when the term 'futures' is used?
